Nutt extends lead as Railton returns to winning ways

The Ducati TriOptions 848 Challenge returned to Donington Park last weekend for the sixth round and Ducati Coventry/JHP's Marty Nutt claimed his third win of the season to extend his advantage to sixteen points in the overall standings over closest title rival Jonathan Railton.

In the opening race of the weekend Nutt was able to hit the front of the field and despite coming under pressure from Mike 'Spike' Edwards onboard the Ohlins @ P&H Motorcycles, he was able to hold off the challenge. Edwards equalled his best result of the season in second whilst Leon Morris maintained his run of consecutive podium finishes in third after edging out Darren Fry.

The second race saw Railton back on the attack as the early series leader claimed his first win since Snetterton in July for the Boast Plumbing/Art of Racing team after narrowly beating Nutt to the line on the final lap. Morris claimed his sixth successive podium finish for the Stockbridge Racing team ahead of the chasing pack of Fry, Edwards and Dean Brown.

Nutt said: "It would have been nice to have had a repeat result on Sunday but to leave with a bigger Championship lead than what I arrived with is what it's all about at this stage of the season. Saturday's race panned out just as I'd wanted, I just put my head down and it wasn't until lap five that I began to look at the gap to the riders behind. I'd have loved to have made it a double on Sunday but Jonathan always comes on strong in the second half of the race and I didn't quite have a big enough gap to keep him at bay but I rode hard all the way until the end. I'm delighted to keep up the podium finishes and we'll look for more of the same next time out."

It was disappointment for Dennis Hobbs as he failed to score points in both races when a broken gear lever forced him out of race one before a crash on the opening lap at Craner Curves ended his hopes of salvaging a strong result in the second race.

The Donington Park round also marked the best results of the season for Fry in fourth place and Sam West. Ben Broadway also claimed his first points of the 2013 Ducati TriOptions 848 Challenge season.
